CHARACTER NAME: Lucina
CHARACTER AGE: 16-17
SERIES: Fire Emblem: Awakening (video game)
CHRONOLOGY: Entering the Outrealm Gate to head into the past
CLASS: Hero
HOUSING: Maurtia Falls, independent
BACKGROUND:
The world Lucina hails from is over. What was once a beautiful, diverse continent of various kingdoms and peoples and races was now just a charred, suffering landscape. The fell dragon Grima, a great entity of destruction, has been summoned by his worshipers known as the Grimleal, and has been unleashed to wreak havoc and destroy all that was once good and whole. The events that drew the world to this point happened years before her birth, but she, and the few who remain alive in her homeland of Ylisse, are paying the price for it.
Just a few short years ago, the death of her Aunt Emmeryn, Exalt of Ylisse, leaves the halidom in disarray and its greatest, most guarded treasure, the Fire Emblem, is handed over to the Grimleal. It is used to waken Grima, and the years-long battle for survival begins.
As Lucina was growing up, her parents and loyal vassals battled the Risen: undead monsters conjured by Grima's presence to raze and murder. Her father was Chrom, the Exalt after Emmeryn, and her mother Sully, a knight of Ylisse and member of Chrom's "Shepherds." At an unnamed, young age, Lucina her parents when they tried to confront Grima himself. All that she ever got back was the cherished blade, Falchion, the sword passed down for generations through her bloodline. She was now tasked with wielding the blade against Grima and his evil.
Lucina and the children of the fallen Shepherds make a desperate scramble to reclaim the Fire Emblem and the five gemstones that will complete its power, with the hope of resurrecting Naga, the god-dragon counter to Grima, with the wish to restoring balance and sealing Grima away so the land -- and humanity -- can recover.
They only manage to reclaim four of the stones with the Emblem by the time Grima catches onto their scheme. Pursued, desperate, Lucina prays and pleads and ultimately her cries reach Naga. While the god-dragon cannot grant her wish, she teaches Lucina the way to the Outrealm Gate: a magical pathway through time and space that will open at a specific, given time. Three days from her contact with Lucina, in fact. Naga tells her that passing through that gate, Lucina and her allies can travel back in time to stop the revival of Grima before it can begin.
So begins the desperate race to the Outrealm Gate. With Grima hot on their heels, Lucina and company just barely make it through. Pursued by Grima and his Risen warriors, Lucina dives into the blinding light, on her way to the past...
...And arrives here, in the machine.
PERSONALITY:
Lucina is a young woman with the weight of an entire world's fate on her shoulder. It's...quite a lot to put on her, but she carries it earnestly and desperately. There's really no other choice in the matter!
The plight of her world has sculpted her into a very driven, justice-oriented person who has a tendency to shoulder burdens on her before asking for aid (after all, so many have suffered so much, she's the heir of Ylisse, she should be the leader...). She can become anxious when she has to play the role of passive spectator, more comfortable confronting problems head-on...with a sword...
That said, if it's conflict that isn't the sort resolved by combat, well...she's not quite skilled at that. She can be very stubborn and will fall victim to her snap-judgments/emotions, but struggles to relent or forgive herself of mistakes when she realizes she's in the wrong. She can be a bit too self-depreciating in her remorse, likely to cling to regret for longer than she needs to.
Among friends, she is kind and fiercely protective of them. She lost her family already, by gods she's not losing anyone else she loves! She embraces the many quirks her friends possess, even though she isn't always on the same wavelength; it doesn't stop her from trying to connect, understand, and maybe even participate in the different hobbies they may have.
Lucina's life under threat hasn't kept her from having developed a very...interesting aesthetic. She's very drawn to loud, tacky designs, colors, and fashions. That, as well as engaging with her friends, can bring out more of her youthful, energetic side.
Basically, when Lucina has her mind set on doing a thing, be it changing the future or buying the most abominable dress in existence, she approaches it with determination and pours herself into it without a bit of dishonesty. Even her dishonesty (she pretends to be a man when she first arrives in the past to fool her father) is something she tackles all-out, refusing to do anything less than her best.
Her greatest anxieties are in failing her entire world, in losing her family again. It can overshadow her interactions with others and make her snappish when she sees others not taking things as seriously as she is. She tends to expect the same levels of passion and involvement from others as she has, and when she encounters differing levels of engagement, it can cause friction, as she'll be more insistent on changing the other for what she sees as the better. This also carries onto less serious topics, where she can miss the subtleties in others' attitudes and simply assume they're on the same wavelength. For example, it made complete sense for her to wrestle her friend Brady in an attempt to give him a massage when he'd help her sore wrist recover. Even though he was screaming out in pain. That was just pain she was going to fix......right???
There is also a shade of sorrow in her: she knows her own world is done, and that the future she's fighting for is for the baby Lucina who will never be her. And while that's a noble pursuit, to her it means she doesn't truly belong to this past, that she will have to find her own way should they succeed. There will be an ache in her, a longing to belong, to be secure in the things she loves and love her in turn.
Long story short: Lucina is a passionate, kindhearted girl molded by her world's conflict to be quick to take charge, which plays out in all her interactions. She never does anything halfway, and while that makes her pretty intense, it also enhances some of her goofier qualities.
POWER:
AETHER: At desperate moments, Lucina can strike two powerful blows, one which lowers enemy defenses, and the second of which she can absorb some of the energy/stamina of her foes to keep herself going. A kind of magical second wind so she can stay up on her feet and fighting.
FLIGHT: ...because it'll be cool.

Good evening, everyone. And...thank you, to those of you who took so much time to help me get acclimated to this place. I know I'm not the fastest learner. I mean, if it's a blade, that's one thing, but...
[she exhales. then, with a bit of a self-depreciating good humor:] But I don't think I have this whole experience down yet. And...I'll need to ask for a bit more help.
I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to use the oven. And...well, I don't think...Odin's been using it properly since before I got here. I think we better set things straight before something is well and truly damaged beyond repair.
